Lucia Lvjie Zhang’s musical journey began at the age of three, when she was first introduced to the piano by her mother, a respected piano teacher. Her early immersion in music set the course for her future, and at the age of ten, she entered the Middle School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Yameng Huang.

 

In October 2011, Lucia’s artistic development took a significant turn as she was accepted to study at the University Mozarteum Salzburg, under the mentorship of Professor Klaus Kaufmann. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of her international academic and performance career, opening new possibilities for her artistic growth.

 

In 2014, Lucia continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree under Professor Ralf Nattkemper. During this period, she was awarded the Oscar und Vera Ritter Stiftung Scholarship. At just 19 years old, Lucia performed all of Chopin’s Etudes in a single concert, a remarkable accomplishment celebrated by the Chopin-Gesellschaft Hamburg.

 

Lucia’s technical prowess and artistry have earned her recognition at prestigious international competitions:

- Winner of the International Piano Competition Citta di Gorizia,  

- Special Prize at the International Competition Lagny-sur-Marne,  

- Finalist at the International Paris Competition (2019),  

- Semifinalist at the Concurso Internacional Premio Jaén Piano (2019),

- Semifinalist at the Concours International Piano Epinal (2023).  

 

Her growth as an artist has been guided by renowned figures in the piano world, including Dang Thai Son, Peter Lang, Daejin Kim, Konstanze Eickhorst, Lee Kum Sing, Matti Raekallio, Arnulf von Arnim, Lev Natochenny, Bernd Goetzke, Alexei Gorlatch, Michel Beroff, and Grigory Gruzman. In 2018, she was awarded the Live Music Now Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Scholarship, further affirming her promise as an emerging artist.

 

Lucia graduated with the highest honors from her Bachelor’s degree, achieving a perfect score of 1.0 in her final examination with Professor Nattkemper. She continued to excel academically, completing her Master’s degree in 2020 with perfect results, and graduated from her Konzertexam in 2024 with distinction under the guidance of Professor Aleksandar Madžar.

 

Her international performance career spans a wide range of prestigious venues, from Laeiszhalle Hamburg to locations in Germany, Austria, China, Spain, and Italy. She has collaborated with renowned orchestras, including the Orchestra Filarmonica “Mihail Jora” di Bacau and the Wasserburger Philharmonie Orchester, leaving a lasting impact on audiences worldwide. 

In 2024, Lucia Lvjie Zhang performed a Piano Concerto composed by the female composer Emilie Mayer with the Neues Kammerorchester Berlin, under the guidance of Joana Maia. The performance was met with great success.

Lucia is also deeply committed to education. She taught Piano Minor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg from 2020 to 2024 and furthered her teaching endeavors in Berlin, where she imparted her knowledge at the Leo-Borchard Musikschule Steglitz-Zehlendorf and the Schostakowitsch Musikschule Lichtenberg.

 

Embracing collaboration, Lucia enjoys working with instrumentalists and vocalists, finding inspiration in the rich exchanges of musical expression. Fluent in Chinese, German, English, and French, she is also well-versed in Literature and Art History, disciplines that further inform and enrich her artistic journey.
